Altspeak
Private listening from text
Altspeak podcast app compatibility
Podcast apps that work with Altspeak
Turn articles, newsletters, and documents into a private podcast. This guide shows which podcast apps can play your Altspeak feed, which ones we have tested, and where compatibility requires a different privacy setting.
Step 1
Paste what you meant to read
Articles, newsletters, board packets, policy documents, legal notes, research, and long memos all become queueable audio jobs.
Step 2
Altspeak makes a private episode
The text becomes spoken audio and a podcast episode in your private feed, instead of another tab, attachment, or read-later pile.
Step 3
Listen in your podcast app
Use a private RSS feed with your email and generated password, then listen while driving, walking, doing chores, or clearing the queue.
Private podcast app support
Podcast apps supported by Altspeak
Overcast and AntennaPod are verified with real Altspeak private feeds. The other apps below have an Altspeak setup option but still need broader device testing. App behavior can change, so check the status and notes before choosing.
| Podcast app | Support status | How to add the private feed | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Overcast | iPhone - Known to work with Altspeak | Use Add URL, then type in the username and password when prompted. | Tested with an Altspeak private feed. Overcast also documents special handling for private feeds, including HTTP Basic Auth credentials in feed URLs. App Store |
| AntennaPod | Android - Known to work with Altspeak | Add the RSS feed and provide username/password when requested. | Tested with an Altspeak private feed. AntennaPod describes private feeds that require username and password and says it gives those credentials directly to the podcast host when requested. Google Play |
| Downcast | iPhone - Altspeak setup available; needs testing | Add the feed manually and enter credentials. | Downcast documents subscribing to password-protected feeds and changing credentials later in podcast settings. Source |
| Pocket Casts | iPhone/Android - Altspeak setup available; needs testing | Use a Basic Auth feed URL and mark it private when submitting. | Pocket Casts says password-protected feeds are not formally supported, but documents limited support for username/password Basic Auth feeds. Source |
| Podcast Addict | Android - Altspeak setup available; needs testing | Open the Altspeak setup page on your Android device and choose Podcast Addict. | Altspeak can hand the private feed to Podcast Addict, but this path still needs broader testing before we mark it as verified. |
Apple Podcasts: lower-privacy compatibility
Apple Podcasts can use an Altspeak private feed when you explicitly enable Apple Podcasts compatibility. The feed remains private, but episode download links no longer require your podcast password. If you want password protection on both the feed and every episode download, choose one of the secure private-feed apps above.
Known not working with Altspeak
| Podcast app | Support status | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Player FM | Android - Known not working | As of May 8, 2026, Altspeak testing did not find a secure private-feed setup that works. |
“Known to work with Altspeak” means we verified the app with a real private feed. “Needs testing” means Altspeak has a setup path for the app, but we have not yet verified enough devices and versions to call it fully supported.
Who this is for
People with a reading queue that keeps fighting back.

newsletter readers with a backlog
policy teams reading dense updates
board members preparing from packets
lawyers reviewing long documents
students studying on walks

Small but important
This is not a fake radio show generator.
“AI podcast generator” can mean a lot of things. Altspeak is intentionally practical: it turns your real text into private spoken audio that lands in a podcast-style feed. No fake hosts required. No public publishing required. Just the reading you already care about, made listenable.
Ready when your reading queue is not
Turn text into something you can actually finish.
Paste long text into Altspeak, get a private podcast episode, and listen where your ears already are.
